Our Company

Our Story

Durose is a longstanding fixture in Guelph, Canada. The original company was formed in 1944 as a small welding and machine repair shop with four employees in a 1,200 sq. ft. building located at 460 Elizabeth Street. Today, the company is still located at the same address however the operation has grown to over 100 employees and expanded to 139,000 sq. ft.

Since our inception, we have strived to grow by meeting the needs of our customers. We have a talented and skilled workforce that can transform metal into just about anything the mind can engineer. As Durose continues to modernize, it will preserve the integrity of our company’s founding philosophy – to be craftsmen of steel. In support of our employees, we have invested in CNC equipment, Computer Aided Design, and certified our processes to ISO 9001:2001.

Over the years, Durose has undertaken many projects ranging from complex architectural fabrication for some of the most recognizable buildings in the world, to OEM fabricated parts for many Fortune 500 companies across Canada, the United States, Europe and China.

The art of steel manufacturing is becoming increasingly sophisticated in response to the need for more complex fabrication solutions. Durose is responding to today’s competitive market with adaptability – the key to successfully maintaining and expanding the company’s niche in the global marketplace.

Our Culture

Angelo Maggiolo, the current company owner, found himself at Durose in 1962 as a 21-year-old labourer shortly after arriving in Canada from Italy. He was offered $1.25/hour to start – more than other companies were paying down the road – so he took the job and has never left! The commitment to fair wage, above-standard working conditions and treating people with respect that drew him to the company have remained a foundation of his philosophy.

Angelo took over the business in 1974 and has continued to evolve and grow Durose with his family by his side, quite literally. Today Angelo’s son Martino runs the company’s day-to-day operations. Working alongside family members and other highly skilled and experienced craftsmen, Durose’s family dynamic is at the core of our work.

At Durose, we believe growth is achieved by investing in our people and the tools they require for their craft. We endorse continued improvement amongst our highly skilled and experienced craftsmen through various employment opportunities.
